York Open Studios

I will be one of 100 artists and makers exhibiting their work for York Open Studios this April. My second year in the YOS scheme but exhibiting from my own home for the first time. My work is predominantly mixed media response to landscape. Also pleased ceramicist Carolyn Thorpe will be showing her raku pots here.

Pleased to see Hester Cox collagraphs amongst printmakers currently exhibited at The Blue Gallery on Bootham. She works from Masham and ran an introductory course on this fascinating technique at Thirsk Rural Arts in the spring. <
These plates of mine from the course show both the incisions and the collaged fabrics that make up the finished design.

Impasto paint and sgraffito technique

A friend has recently brought me a bag of ash from her wood-burning stove, so perhaps it is time to have another go at this thickly textured work introduced to me by Anna Poulton and Stuart Whitehead at Sleningford. Paint is thickened with sieved ash, applied with a palette knife and scraped back to reveal the under painting, a technique known as sgraffito. I enjoyed doing this Vase Anemones and Sweet Peas.
