Despite the untimely rain had a good turnout last night to the preview my York Open Studios event with potter Carolyn Thorpe. Open this weekend and next.(April 16/17 23/24) This is one of 70 venues of artists and makers open to the public during York Open Studios. Do come.
I will be one of 100 artists and makers exhibiting their work for York Open Studios this April. My second year in the YOS scheme but exhibiting from my own home for the first time. My work is predominantly mixed media response to landscape. Also pleased ceramicist Carolyn Thorpe will be showing her raku pots here.
One of the highlights of the recent York Literature festival was hearing Rosie Bailey introduce a posthumous collection of U A Fanthorpe’s prose and poetry about her experience of working as a clerk/ receptionist in the outpatients department of a hospital near Bristol in 1974, the experience which pushed her into poetry. Do look out for Berowne’s Book published by Enitharmon Press.
Pleased to see Hester Cox collagraphs amongst printmakers currently exhibited at The Blue Gallery on Bootham. She works from Masham and ran an introductory course on this fascinating technique at Thirsk Rural Arts in the spring. <
These plates of mine from the course show both the incisions and the collaged fabrics that make up the finished design.
